Purpose of Job
Performs ultrasound examinations of patients as requested by referring physicians.

This position consistently supports compliance and Kaiser Permanente's Code of Conduct by adhering to federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licenser requirements and Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures.

In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors and principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives. Also accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to purchasers, contracted providers and vendors.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Greets patient, explains ultrasound procedure, and answers questions.
2. Selects the appropriate machine and probe to be used to obtain diagnostic information requested by referring physician.
3. Applies gel to patient's skin, applies probe, and monitors equipment to obtain ultra-sound images.
4. Processes film and reviews images to confirm that images meet radiologist's requirements.
5. Prepares initial diagnosis by identifying abnormal conditions for review by radiologist.
6. Uses ultrasound equipment to assist providers to conduct invasive procedures.
7. Maintains equipment and examination room, stores film, and keeps inventory of related supplies.
8. Prepares patient information files with patient identification, date of exam, referring physician, and exam performed.
9. Prepares and submits reports showing the number and type of examinations conducted.
10. Performs other related duties as directed.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience
. One year of full time experience as a sonographer required.

Education and Training
. High school diploma or GED required.
. Completion of an ARDMS accredited or equivalent program in ultrasound technology required.

License, Certifications, Other Credentials
. Current certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (RDMS) in abdomen and/or OB/GYN required.
. Certifications such as breast or RVT preferred.
. Non-Registered Sonographers may be considered; however, Sonographers must have met experience, education, and training requirements; and upon hire, Sonographer must sit for and pass abdomen and/or OB/GYN Registry within one year of employment.
. CPR Certification required.
